Being Thankful…it’s not a cliche

Thanksgiving is next week and I’m waxing nostalgic. I love, love, LOVE the Thanksgiving/Christmas season! (Did I mention that I love it??) The premise is to be thoughtful, thankful, and giving; something that collectively we don’t practice as much as we should. What tends to rub me the wrong way, however, is the retail practice of completely skipping over Thanksgiving and jumping to Christmas…in September. That’s just insane, in my estimation. Each holiday should have its own season. But I digress.

I love to entertain and hospitality is my gifting (can you tell??), so for me hosting Thanksgiving isn’t a chore. I absolutely love all the preparations leading up to the day! My family tradition is for each person in attendance at my house to state something they’re truly thankful for. Interestingly enough, most choose their family as what they’re most thankful for. As I reflect on that, I wonder if we actually ‘walk that out’ throughout the rest of the year in the choices we make. I am more mindful of that as I have made the decision to steer my life in a different direction starting January 1st. I am going to be focusing more on my family and investing the bulk of my time in that eternal investment.

As Thanksgiving approaches and then we head into the Christmas season, I want to look around and see the true worth of people instead of things. I want to spend more time than money on others and truly remember the Reason Behind the Season. I hope that all of you have a truly blessed Thanksgiving and a very Merry Christmas! Thank you for your support through the years. Make your New Year one that makes a real difference!

Sincerely,
Chef Cari
